[002] Baby's First Port

[Video comes on to show Jaime holding the Admiral's flyer and grinning.]

Just testing my reading comprehension skills, but does this say what I think it says? We're going to Mexico? Wonder if we'll be close enough that I can visit my grandma...

...Yes, we can try to find a Cinnabon. Or pan de muerto. I'm sure someone will have something sweet.

Mexico? For real?

...'s it say where in Mexico?

[identity profile] beetleboyblue.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[flipping the page over a couple of times] Not that I can see. But still--sounds like it'll be a great time.

[identity profile] yeahscience.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, man. Mexico's the bomb. [He sounds... not exactly sarcastic, but not really all that enthused.]

[identity profile] beetleboyblue.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
There's plenty to do--I'm sure you'll find something. I mean, there are always beaches, right?

[identity profile] yeahscience.livejournal.com 2011-11-18 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Be nice to get some decent comida, anyway.

[identity profile] sixthanimorph.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
... okay, at the risk of sounding like a moron, what the hell is 'panda murto?'

[identity profile] beetleboyblue.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Panda... Oh. [He grins.] Pan de muerto. Literally, it means bread of the dead, which sounds kind of terrible and maybe poisonous, but it's really not. It's a sweet bread.

[identity profile] sixthanimorph.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
... Huh. [He shrugs.] Guess it must be a Spanish thing. Don't they have a holiday for dead people too?

[identity profile] beetleboyblue.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Día de Muertos? Yeah. [grin] It looks like that's what we're heading into, actually.

...Also not morbid and terrible.

[identity profile] sixthanimorph.livejournal.com 2011-11-18 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
And here I thought that was just an island on Jurassic Park. Shows what I know.

... Okay, just tell me there won't be any zombies and we're cool.

in spanish.

[identity profile] iam-aghost.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
It certainly says Mexico, your eyes aren't deceiving you.

Although I admit, I'm a little disappointed we're not going further south. But personal preference, nothing more.

Also Spanish!

[identity profile] beetleboyblue.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess it would defeat the point if you caught a plane or something.

Re: Also Spanish!

[identity profile] iam-aghost.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't imagine one could afford it.

[That's right, not everyone flies the friendly skies free, by way of Khaji Da Air.]

Well, maybe next time? And--you know. Day of the Dead should be fun, right?

It does seem to be Mexico. Do you know anything about it for us poor people who haven't traveled that widely?

[identity profile] beetleboyblue.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure--what do you want to know!

The climate seems to be warmer than I am used to, but what is it generally like this time of year? I don't want to be significantly over or under-dressed for the temperature.

[identity profile] beetleboyblue.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it will probably still be pretty warm--even later on into the winter, it doesn't really get cold. I'd dress for warm weather.

You know people there? That's wonderful! Perhaps my concerns about the portents of Admiral's advertising are unfounded.

[identity profile] beetleboyblue.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, maybe, If it's the right part of Mexico. And the right universe. But in my universe's Mexico, my parents both have family there.
strangehistorian: (the confused D:)

[personal profile] strangehistorian 2011-11-18 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I hope you get to see them!

...The last time the Admiral was so positive about a port, it didn't turn out very well at all.

[identity profile] beetleboyblue.livejournal.com 2011-11-19 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
...That's not really encouraging. But I hope so too--I kinda miss my family.
peektuttut: (RR; Damn remember what happy's like)

[personal profile] peektuttut 2011-11-17 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't bank on visiting family. It's usually more like an alternate world.

But it should be pretty awesome.

[identity profile] beetleboyblue.livejournal.com 2011-11-19 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess that makes sense. But it would still be cool--even if we don't see anyone we know, it will still be cool.
